Prospect Watch:The TinCaps’ season, and the Padres’ minor league affiliates’ seasons came to an end on Sunday night as Fort Wayne was swept by Lake County in the Eastern Division Championship Series. Down 4-1 in the eighth inning the TinCaps rallied to put three runs on the board to tie the game and keep their season alive. However, in the bottom of the inning what has plagued Fort Wayne all year came back to bite them as either SS Trea Turner made a wide throw to 1B Jake Bauers or Bauers was not on the bag. Either way it was an error with two outs in the inning which allowed the winning run to score. During the season the TinCaps made 208 regular season errors to lead the minor leagues. In the top of the ninth, Turner walked with one out and with the Midwest League RBI, and all-time single season leader for the TinCaps’ at the plate, DH Fernando Perez at the plate, he grounded out to shortstop to end the game and the season....Ronald Herrera pitched well except for one big mistake, a three-run home run in the fourth...2B Josh VanMeter hit .294 for the playoff and should be much better in the Cal League next season where the fast infields should play to his strengths...C John Nester (.429) and 3B Dustin Peterson (.412) were the offensive stars in the playoffs for Fort Wayne.
