MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: April 10

El Paso and Lake Elsinore lose big but Colin Rea twirls a gem in Tulsa. In-climate in the Midwest League takes out game number three for Fort Wayne on the road.

Tacoma Rainers 17 - Chihuahuas 5

Key Statistics:DH Tommy Medica 3-4, 2B, HR (1), 3 RBI; SS Ramiro Pena 1-3, BB, RBI; C Austin Hedges 1-3, 2B, RBI; RHP Aaron Northcraft (L, 0-1) 8 H 7 R 7 ER BB 3 K.

Prospect Watch:Welcome to the PCL Mr. Northcraft, and this is one of the more neutral parks in the league. After taking an early lead on Tommy Medica’s three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning the Rainers put up seven in the top of the second and then had crooked numbers in the next three innings....On the positive side RHP Kevin Quackenbush made his PCL debut and tossed a scoreless inning and reserve infielder Mike McCoy came in for the ninth inning and gave up only a single earned run...In his first two games Medica is now 4-8 the a pair of doubles and a home run.

San Antonio 1 - Tulsa Drillers

Key Statistics:3B Benji Gonzalez 1-3, BB; 2B Diego Goris 1-4; CF Alberth Martinez 1-2, BB; RHP Colin Rea 7.0 IP 7 H 6 Ks; LHP Brandon Alger (W, 1-0) 2.0 IP 2 Ks.

Prospect Watch:In the top of the ninth with two outs in a scoreless game Goris singled to center and reached home on an error by the Drillers’ left fielder on Hunter Renfroe’s fly ball and that was the game...A big night for the Missions’ staff led by Colin Rea for whom the Padres’ brass have been predicting big things for years. At 6-5, 220 lbs. with a very good two-seam fastball and a new found ability to pitch inside, he is one to watch. Alger, who had a big year last season with the Storm, may also be in San Diego sometime this year with his ability to pitch multiple innings and is tough on batters from both sides of the plate.

Modesto Nuts 12 - Storm 2

Key StatisticsSS Jose Rondon 2-4, BB, 2 SB; 3B Gabriel Quintana 2-4, 2 RBI; RF Jeremy Baltz 1-3, BB; C Ryan Miller 2-4, 2 2Bs; RHP Zech Lemond 6.0 IP 6 H 2 R 2 ER Bb 7 Ks HR; RHP Matthew Shepherd (L, 0-1) 0.2 5 H 7 R 7 ER BB.

Prospect Watch:A tough night for Matt Shepherd who was one of the better pitchers out of the bullpen last year for the Storm...A good night for Rondon who will be the top shortstop in the system once Turner goes to the Nationals in mid-season...Keep an eye on C Ryan Miller who had a good year behind the plate last year defensively for the TinCaps and showed some power. If his plate discipline picks up a little more he has a chance...A good High-A debut for Zech Lemond. He has the stuff, the big question on him is if he is durable enough to be a starter. He got off to a good start tonight.

The TinCaps and Great Lakes Loons game was postponed for the second straight day.
