MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: April 11

El Paso took it on the chin and the offense deserted the Missions. Lake Elsinore got strong performances from Auston Bousfield and Fernando Perez and Fort Wayne had an entire series cancelled due to bad weather.

Tacoma Rainers 10 - Chihuahuas 2

Prospect Watch:In two starts for the Chihuahuas last year Robbie Erlin made two starts last year in AAA and struggled in both with a 9.28 ERA. He had a tough opening debut as El Paso dropped it’s second in a row...RF Rymer Liriano is struggling in the opening series with an .083 batting average and an error in the outfield tonight...C Rocky Gale got the second straight start over Austin Hedges although Hedges did enter the game later.

Prospect Watch:Diego Goris’ home run at the top of the first was one of only two hits the Missions would get on the night as the offensive woes that plagued the team last year have reappeared in the opening series...not a bad AA debut by Bryan Rodriguez...in the first three games CF Travis Jankowski and SS Trea Turner have yet to get a hit.

Storm 6 - Modesto Nuts 5

Key StatisticsCF Auston Bousfield 2-3, 2B, SB, BB; DH Fernando Perez 3-4, 2 2B, $ RBI; LF Jeremy Baltz 1-3, RBI, BB; RHP Ronald Herrera (W, 1-0) 6.0 IP 5 H 2 R 2 ER 2 Ks; RHP Eric Yardley (S,1) 1.1 IP H K.

Prospect Watch: A big night for prospects as Auston Bousfield and Fernando Perez combined for five hits, three of them for extra-bases. Bousfield is a player who can fill a box score has gotten off to a fast start in the first three games with a .444 batting average and a pair of stolen bases. Perez, whom Padres’ farm director Sam Geaney believes has one of the best swings in the organization, is also off to a fast start. Although he was a DH tonight, a left-handed hitting second baseman with some power is an interesting prospect.

The TinCaps and Great Lakes Loons game was postponed tonight in Midland, Michigan which means all four games of the opening series were cancelled because of “deep frost leading to excessive amounts of moisture beneath the playing surface” according to the TinCaps’ press release.

Fort Wayne will open their season at home on Sunday.
