MadFriars Daily Farm Report: April 22

After two weeks, the farm system finally had their first undefeated day. Oddly enough top prospects Rymer Liriano, Hunter Renfroe, Trea Turner, Jose Rondon, and Austin Hedges all had the day off.

Chihuahuas 13 - Sacramento River Cats 5

Key Statistics: RHP James Needy 5 IP 8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, K (W, 2-0); CF Abraham Almonte 3-6, HR (3), 4 RBI; LF Alex Dickerson 2-5, 2B, HR (1), 2 RS, 3 RBI.

Prospect Watch Despite giving their two top hitters, Medica and Hedges, and giving one of the Padres' top prospects Rymer Liriano the night off, El Paso didn’t skip a beat. While Chihuahuas managed 13 runs, only two players, Almonte and Dickerson, had multi-hit games… While no one was surprised that Almonte was sent down he has shown the speed, power and hitting ability that made him one of Seattle’s top prospects two years ago. Almonte is currently leading the club in both stolen bases, home runs and RBI.

No game for the struggling San Antonio Missions

Storm 6 – High Desert Mavericks 4

Key Statistics: RHP Rafael De Paula 5 IP, 5 H, ER, 6 K; SS River Stevens 3-5, 2B, 2 RBI, BB; 2B Fernando Perez 2-5, HR (1), RBI; 1B Marcus Davis 2-4, 2B, RS.

Prospect Watch Maybe it is just that shortstops in Lake Elsinore do well. With Jose Rondon have the day off, River Stevens came in and was the player of the game. He is hitting .400 on the year after just a handful of at bats… Fernando Perez was the most consistent hitter last year for Fort Wayne but this year he has started off slowly. He hit his first home run of the year tonight, but is hitting just .208/.304/.333 on the young season…After a slow start, Marcus Davis has doubled his batting average in the past six days. Davis who had a big year in Eugene last year skipped Low-A Fort Wayne.

TinCaps 9 – Lansing Lugnuts 4

Key Statistics: LHP Taylor Aikenhead 5 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K; CF Edwin Moreno 2-5, 2 2B, 2 RS; 2B Felipe Blanco 3-6, 2 RS, HR (1), 4 RBI; 3B Duanel Jones 4-5, RS, RBI; DH Nick Torres 2-4, 2B, RS, RBI.

Prospect Watch So much for gloating about SS Franchy Cordero’s lack of errors. He made up for yesterday’s good plays by committing two today, but he did go 2-5 at the plate though with two runs scored… The Padres fourth round pick from last years' draft has started off on fire. After snapping a nine-game hitting streak last night, he started a new one with another multi-hit game. He now has seven multi-hit games in 11 total games, and is hitting a cool .378/.429/.578 on the season.
