MadFriars Daily Farm Report: April 23

El Paso looks like a powerhouse and San Antonio has their moments. Fort Wayne struggles to field the ball again this year and the MadFriars' crew was out at the Diamond.

Chihuahuas 7 - Sacramento River Cats 3

Key Statistics:RF Rymer Liriano 3-4, 2 HR (2), 3 RBI; LF Tommy Medica 2-4, 3B, RBI; C Austin Hedges 2-4, 2B; 1B Cody Decker 1-3, BB, RBI; 2B Taylor Lindsey 2-3, 2B, RBI; RHP Bryce Morrow (W, 2-1) 6.2 IP 2 R 2 ER BB 5 K; RHP Marcos Mateo 1.2 IP K.

Prospect Watch:Here comes Rymer. Ten days ago he was hitting .143 but in his last three games he has six hits in 13 at-bats and homered twice tonight. Last year he hit .452 in 16 games with El Paso...while the minor leagues are obviously much more about prospects than team wins, still this will be a fun team to watch because they should be able to score at will with the talent they have on the corners. Throw in the fact that Austin Hedges is hitting and there are very few weak spots in the line-up...nice outing by Morrow who toiled for two years in the independent Frontier League before getting a chance last year with the Padres. He has a 1.80 ERA in three starts and 16.2 innings in the PCL, which is an accomplishment for any pitcher.

Midland Rockhounds 5 - Missions 4

Key Statistics:DH Travis Jankowski 1-5, 2B, RBI; SS Trea Turner 1-5, 2B; 2B Diego Goris 1-3; 1B Luis Domoromo 2-4; CF Alberth Martiniez 1-3, RBI, BB; RHP Bryan Rodriguez 5.0 IP 8 H 5 R 3 ER 2 BB 2 K.

Prospect Watch:The visiting Missions plated three runs in the ninth inning with two outs as Midland gave San Antonio a pair of wild pitches and an error, but it still wasn’t enough to overcome an early five run deficit....Right fielder and top prospect Hunter Renfroe is having his worst month as a professional hitting .125/.176/.188 with 15 strikeouts in 12 games...CF Travis Jankowski on the other hand is having one of his better ones with a .326/.431/.372 slash line with five stolen bases in five attempts...soon to be Washington National Trea Turner has also been impressive at .320/.404/.460 with a surprising amount of pop in a thin frame.

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 11 - Storm 1

Key Statistics:

Prospect Watch: David, Ben and Kevin were all at the game...which must have been a long night. Check out our more detailed game wrap.

Lansing Lugnuts 3 - TinCaps 2

Key Statistics:CF Michael Gettys 2-4, 3B, RBI; RF Nick Torres 1-3, BB; C Miguel Del Castillo 2-4, 2B; RHP Walker Lockett (L, 0-2) 3.2 IP 5 H 3 R 3 ER BB 4 K HR; LHP Payton Baskette 2.1 IP 2 H BB K; RHP Wilson Santos 2.0 IP 2 H 2 K.

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps got behind by three, were able to scratch a pair of runs back before falling to 4 - 8 for the season...the good news on the prospect front is Gettys looks like the real thing so far. He’s hitting .298/.340/.426 in the month that he was supposed to be struggling in the cold. Since taking over for the injured Josh VanMeter, 2B Felipe Blanco is hitting .342/.419/.500. Blanco had previously hit .209 and .169 in two years in Eugene....the bad news is SS Franchy Cordero made another throwing error giving him eight in eleven games to go along with four strikeouts in four at-bats today. Locket had his second straight outing where he allowed as many earned runs as innings pitched. It was not a fun day at the yard.
