Prospect Watch:El Paso had it’s chances but couldn’t put together an inning to throw up any crooked numbers as they lost for only their third time in eleven games...The Chihuahuas are hitting .283 as a team....Liriano has embraced his role as a leadoff hitter hitting .367/.441/.700 in the leadoff spot. He hasn’t run much in past years since he’s been moved to the middle of the order but he stole 65 bases in 2010 in Fort Wayne so he can run a little...Cody Decker is hitting .238 but he has an on-base percentage of .396 and his OPS is .825...With the struggles of San Antonio’s Hunter Renfroe and Fort Wayne’s Franchy Cordero the Padres have to ecstatic with the way Austin Hedges has been hitting at .370/.452/.609.Throw in the fact that El Paso manager Pat Murphy has a quality back-up in Rocky Gale, and Hedges shouldn’t wear down like he did last season in San Antonio.

He’s tied for the lead in the league in this category with 21 in 12 games...There are some nice surprises early in the year for San Antonio one of which is 3B/2B Casey McElroy who has a .313/.421/.396 line going into the game...Jankowski is tied for the lead in stolen bases with six and has yet to be caught.

Prospect Watch:The Storm only scored in the first inning on Saturday night at the Diamond but it was enough as they got solid pitching and strong defense...slowly but surely, Fernando Perez is starting to come around at the plate...after walking only one batter in his previous three outings, Zech Lemond walked four tonight and only went four innings for the second consecutive outing...Kyle Lloyd, who led the organization last year in strikeouts as a starter in Fort Wayne, is a reliever this season and is putting up some numbers. He has 16 strikeouts in 11 innings with a 0.82 ERA in the Cal League.

South Bend Cubs - TinCaps 2
Prospect Watch:The good news is that stater Ernesto Montas only gave up a single hit. The bad news is he also allowed five walks and Fort Wayne made four errors in the field which usually does not bode well for the outcome...Cordero continues to struggle on defense and offense. Today he had a pair of throwing errors in the second inning, the last one with two outs allowed a pair of runs to score. At the plate he had three strikeouts. In his last three games he is 0-12 with seven strikeouts. Anyone who watched Cordero in the spring could tell that he is a special talent with lots of tools, but this is the second straight where he is averaging nearly an error and two strikeouts per game....OF Nick Torres is fourth in the league in batting average at .382, third in slugging percentage at .600 and first in total bases at 33...In three of his last five games Gettys has multi-hit games...The TinCaps’ staff has an overall ERA of 5.01, which is dead last in the league then again the defense behind them has made 25 errors in 13 games.
