MadFriars Daily Farm Report: April 27

It was a light Monday evening in the Padres’ system, as both Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore had the evening off. The Missions bullpen could not backup another solid effort from starter Colin Rea, and the Chihuahuas’ bats were cold in a loss.

Prospect Watch: RHP James Needy had another rough outing, as he allowed five earned runs in his five innings of work. Needy gave up eight hits, all singles and five earned runs. The former sixth-round pick in 2009 has a 6.86 in four starts for El Paso. Opposing batters are hitting .321 against the big righty from Santana High. … The Chihuahuas got their only run on a solo home run by left fielder Alex Dickerson. Dickerson, 24, is off to a nice start, hitting .326/.383/.558, with two home runs and 10 RBI. … RHP Aaron Northcraft, 24, was sent to San Antonio after posting a 10.22 ERA in four games (three starts). To take his place on the roster, RHP Jay Jackson was promoted to El Paso. Jackson, 27, was signed by the Padres in the offseason. He dominated Texas League hitters in a small sample size, pitching to a 1.69 ERA in six appearances out of the ‘pen. He struck out 16 batters in his 10.2 innings of work.

Key Statistics: DH Travis Jankowski, 2-for-4, BB; LF Yeison Asencio, 2-for-5, 2B, RBI; RF Hunter Renfroe, 3-for-5, 2B, 3 RBI; RHP Colin Rea, 7 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 2 ER, BB, 6 K; LHP Brandon Alger (BS) (L, 2-1), 2/3 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, BB.

Prospect Watch: The Missions scored three runs in the first inning to jump out to an early lead. However, Frisco scored twice in the top of the eighth and two more times in the ninth to pull away for a win. … Starter Colin Rea turned in another solid outing, allowing just two earned runs in his seven innings of work. He allowed four runs in the third inning, but only two were earned. Rea has worked into the seventh inning in each start, and has a 1.29 ERA in 28 innings, over four starts. Rea also has a ridiculous 22:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio. … RF Hunter Renfroe had three hits and a season-high three RBI on the evening. More impressively, Renfroe did not strikeout in his five at-bats. Renfroe is currently hitting .188/.219/.275, with a homer and six RBIs in 69 at-bats for San Antonio this season.


The Storm had Monday night off. They will open a series tomorrow on the road against Inland Empire…The Storm did make a roster move, placing RHP Justin Livengood on the 7-day DL. To take his place on the roster, the Storm received RHP Genison Reyes from extended spring training. Reyes, 23, pitched in 48 games last season between Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore, posting a 6.22 ERA in 63.2 innings. … Livengood, 23, has struggled in his transition into a starter. The 10th round pick in 2013 has a 6.75 ERA in three starts for the Storm. Opposing hitters are hitting .377.


The Tincaps had the evening off. They open a series at home Tuesday against the Dayton Dragons.
