Storm 7 – Visalia Rawhide 5

Key Statistics: SS Jose Rondon: 2-for-4, R; DH Marcus Davis: 1-for-4, 2B, 2RBI. LF Nick Schulz, 1-for-4, R, 2RBI. C Jeremy Rodriguez, 1-for-4, 2B, 2RBI. RHP Rafael De Paula (W, 3-2) 5IP, 5H, 2ER, 3BB, 8K. RHP Eric Yardley (S, 8) IP, H.

Prospect Watch: The Storm stopped a six-game skid, avoiding a sweep at the hands of first place Visalia. Lake Elsinore scored six runs in the first inning to take control. Every Storm hitter had at least one hit … DH Marcus Davis drove in the first two runs with a double to left. Davis, 23, is having an up-and-down season in his first full year of pro ball. Davis is hitting .326 over his last ten games. For the season, Davis is hitting .252/.272/.364, with three home runs and 17 RBI … Jose Rondon had a pair of hits, which hopefully means his slump is coming to an end. Rondon was 2-for-24 in his previous six games. The 21-year-old shortstop is hitting .272/.337/.374 with a homer and nine RBI … Rafael De Paula tied a season-high with eight strikeouts in his five innings of work. De Paula balked in a run in the first inning and allowed an RBI double in the fourth. The hard-throwing righty continues to display intriguing stuff, which looks to play better in the bullpen. De Paula has only thrown more than five innings once this season. For the season, De Paula is 3-2, with a 4.38 ERA in 39 innings. Ironically, in 42.2 innings last season for the Storm, opposing batters hit .281 against De Paula. This season in 39 innings, batters are hitting .281 as well.

TinCaps 9 – Lake County Captains 5

Key Statistics: SS Ruddy Giron, 2-for-7, HR (2), 2B, 3RBI. 3B-2B Chase Jensen, 1-for-6, HR (1), RBI. PH-3B Duanel Jones, 1-for-2, HR (7) 2R, 2RBI, BB. C Miguel Del Castillo, 3-for-5, BB. LHP Thomas Dorminy, 5IP, 5H, 3ER, 2BB, 3K. LHP Brandon Fry (W, 1-0): 2IP, H, 2BB, 2K.

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps scored four runs in the top of the 14th inning to pull out the victory … SS Ruddy Giron continues to be an intriguing story. The 18-year-old shortstop slammed a three-run shot in the 14th inning to put the game out of reach. Through four games, Giron is hitting .550/.571/1.000, with two home runs, a double, a triple and four RBI. Giron could make the pending loss of Trea Turner sting much less. He may also push Franchy Cordero to the outfield permanently … Duanel Jones came in as a pinch-hitter in the 9th inning and tied the game with his seventh home run of the year. Jones has flashed the power potential that has teased the Padres organization the past few seasons in his return to Fort Wayne. For the season Jones is tied for Midwest League in home runs with seven and leads the circuit with 31 RBI. Jones could make a return to Lake Elsinore in the near future.
