MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: May 30

The Missions sweep a doubleheader but the Iowa Cubs stifle the bats in San Antonio. The Storm have another wild night and Fort Wayne suffers a rare rainout.

Prospect Watch:After a blowout win on the opening night of their homestand three errors and an offense that could only generate five hits, all of them singles with the exception of Dickerson’s double, did not spell a positive result for El Paso...Melvin Upton has pushed his batting average up to .243...Alex Dickerson is very quietly having one of the better seasons in the Padres’ minors right now at .313/.389/.514.

Prospect Watch:After dropping six of their previous seven, the Missions bounced back to sweep a doubleheader on the road. In Game 1, down 1-0 in the top of the sixth Trea Turner, who always seems to be in the middle of things when San Antonio wins, singled to drive in two to put the Missions ahead and advanced to second on a throwing error by the pitcher. He later came home on Diego Goris’ RBI single. San Antonio tacked on two more in the top of the seventh. In Game 2 back-to-back triples to lead off the game by Jankowski and LF Alberth Martiniez followed by, yes, you guessed it, and RBI single by Trea Turner gave the Missions a 2-0 lead. 3B Duanel Jones, who was just called up from Fort Wayne on Wednesday, then got his first hit in AA with an RBI to left field to give San Antonio a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Starting pitcher Justin Hancock, who is 5-0 with a 1.47 ERA in his last nine starts, didn’t need anything else. The only downside was another near meltdown by relief pitcher Luis De La Cruz who has now given up nine earned runs in his last two appearances and hasn’t been able to get out of an inning in either game...Trea Turner has now hit in 16 straight games and has gotten on-base in 29 straight games. According to the Missions’ press office he has hit .398 during the streak with seven doubles, two triples and four home runs. The Nationals will be getting one very good player in a few weeks....Hancock is second in the Texas League in wins and first in innings pitched at 58.
