Prospect Watch: Monday was rough for El Paso, as the lost dropped them below .500. To add insult to an ugly loss, utility man Mike McCoy pitched a scoreless inning – he was the only El Paso pitcher who didn’t allow a run … Melvin Upton Jr. had a pair of singles, with an RBI on the evening. Through nine games, Upton is hitting .273/.333/.333, with nine strikeouts in 33 at-bats … RHP Zack Segovia had a forgettable evening, as he allowed eight earned runs, including two homers in the loss. The 32-year-old veteran had allowed just one earned run in 11 innings for El Paso. Segovia saw his ERA rise from 0.82 to 5.06.

Stockton Ports 5 – Storm 2
Prospect Watch: The Storm managed only two hits on the evening. The loss ended their five-game winning streak … RHP Rafael De Paula allowed three home runs on the evening, but allowed only two earned runs, thanks to an error by LF Yale Rosen. De Paula has shown the ability to miss bats, as he is striking out 10 batters per nine innings pitched. However, De Paula is allowing the Cal League to hit him at a .281 clip … Second baseman Fernando Perez had an RBI double, in an otherwise quiet offensive night. Perez has struggled with consistency this season, but owns a solid overall line of .247/.340/.462, with a team-leading eight homers and 33 RBI. Perez also leads the Storm with 51 strikeouts in 182 at-bats.
West Michigan Whitecaps 5 – TinCaps 2
Prospect Watch: Fort Wayne pitcher Ernesto Montas had a rough outing on Monday, in which he only recorded four outs. He allowed six consecutive outings to start the game. Montas has pitched well at times, but won’t overpower hitters. He throws a curve, a change and a fastball that tops out in the high 80’s … First baseman Trae Santos swatted his sixth homer of the year to put the TinCaps on the board. Santos’ is now in the top-ten in the Midwest League with his six bombs. The former 17th round pick in 2013 has quietly slashed .250/.330/.469 this season.
