MadFriars Daily Farm Report: June 22

Monday was a light day in the system, since Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore have reached the All-Star break. The Dust Devils won a series in Boise, while San Antonio won in extras.

Chihuahuas – DNP. El Paso had the night off. They will be back in action tomorrow against the Albuquerque Isotopes

For further reading on the El Paso Chihuahuas, see the El Paso Times.

Missions 4 – Corpus Christi Hooks 3

Key Statistics: DH Travis Jankowski, 2-for-7, RBI; SS Jose Rondon, 2-for-7; RF Hunter Renfroe, 1-for-6, HR (6), RBI. LF Yeison Asencio, 3-for-5, BB, RS; 2B Taylor Lindsey, 2-for-5, BB, 2RS; C Griff Erickson, 3-for-5, BB, 2RBI; RHP Casey Kelly, 5IP, 6H, 3ER, 2BB, K; RHP Adam Cimber, (W,3-2) 2IP, K.

Prospect Watch: The Missions pushed across the winning run in the 14th inning, courtesy of a Travis Jankowski RBI single … Top prospect Hunter Renfroe homered for the second consecutive game – an encouraging sign, indeed. Renfroe has doubled his 2015 home run total in the last two days – the former first rounder now has six on the year. Renfroe did strike out four times in six at-bats, but it appears Renfroe has finally adjusted to Texas League pitching. Renfroe, 23, is hitting .242/.305/.385, with six homers and 27 RBI this season … Casey Kelly started and gave up three runs in five innings of work. Kelly, 25, equaled his season-high in innings with five, throwing 68 pitches. Kelly threw 79 his last time out, as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. Kelly has a 4.46 ERA in 41 innings for San Antonio.

Storm -- DNP. The Storm have reached the All-Star break and won’t play again until Thursday. Reliever Eric Yardley will represent the eyes in Rancho Cucamonga.

TInCaps -- DNP. The TinCaps have reached the All-Star break as well. Outfielder Nick Torres and pitcher Thomas Dorminy will represent Fort Wayne in Peoria, Illinois.

For further reading on the TinCaps, see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Dust Devils 5 – Boise Hawks 2

Key Statistics: SS Peter Van Gansen, 2-for-5, HR (1), RBI, RS; C Austin Allen, 2-for-4, BB, RS; 1B Nick Vilter, 2-for-4, RBI; 2B Mitch Morales, 2-for-4, RBI; RHP Bryce Morrow, 4IP, 4H, 2R, ER, BB, 4K; LHP Elvin Liriano, (W,1-0) 2IP, 3H, 3K.

Prospect Watch:Peter Van Gansen had himself quite an opening series in Boise. Van Gansen, 21, hit .353/.421/.529 in his first 17 professional at-bats. His first professional home run came Monday night; it was also the Dust Devil’s first round-tripper of the year. Van Gansen was the Big West defensive player of the year, and was drafted as a ‘glove-first’, but any type of offensive contribution makes him an intriguing player to watch this summer. He was the Padres’ 12th round pick in June … RHP Bryce (not to be confused with Brandon) made a rehab start for the Dust Devils. Morrow, 27, has been on the disabled list since May. He was pitching for El Paso before going on the disabled list.

For further reading on the Dust Devils, see the Tri-City Herald.

AZL Padres 2 – AZL Dodgers 0

Key Statistics: RF Euri Minaya, 2-for-4; C Kyle Overstreet, 1-for-4, 2B; RHP Emmanuel Ramirez (W, 1-0) 5IP, H, 6K.

Prospect Watch:RHP Emmanuel Ramirez spun a gem in the brutal Arizona heat, allowing just a single hit in five innings of work, striking out six. The 20-year-old righty has spent the first two seasons of his career pitching for the Padres Dominican team … RF Euri Minaya had a pair of hits in his stateside debut. The 19-year-old outfielder was signed for $700,000 in 2012 out of the Dominican Republic. Scouts have been intrigued with his power, but have reservations about his inability to make consistent contact.
