Prospect Watch With Travis Jankowski out at the PanAm games, the Missions have relied on an outfield of Yeison Asencio, Alberth Martinez and Hunter Renfroe. Oddly enough this combination has resulted in some of the best offensive output the Missions have seen all season. The three combined today for five hits, three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Ascencio has actually taken over the teams batting average leader at .290 after hitting .372 in the month of June… Last year’s Storm closer Brandon Alger came in up by one with two on and one out and proceeded to blow the game. After being lights out for Lake Elsinore last year Alger has managed just a 4.65 ERA this year with San Antonio. Biggest reason… .25 walks in 35 innings this year compared to 19 in 63 innings last year.
Key Statistics: RHP Matthew Shepherd 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K; 3B Gabriel Quintana 2-6, 2B, 2 RS; CF Donovan Tate 1-3, 2B, 2 BB, SB (9).
Prospect Watch Remember when we were all beginning to think Donavan Tate had turned the corner? He was hitting, running, and fielding and starting to show the ability that everyone saw when he was drafted third overall. Well since then he has been in a horrendous spiral. In fact his last multihit game was June 20th, and it has dropped his average from .252 to .212.

Fort Wayne Tin Caps 4 – Lake County Captains 1
Prospect Watch From a numbers perspective Thomas Dorminy isn’t a top prospect and barely one at all. He has a 3.90 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 7.2 K/9, .273 BAA, not bad but nothing amazing. But what, Dorminy has been is effective and consistent. Outside of his first two appearances, last years tenth round pick, has allowed more than three runs just twice over a span of 15 starts… TinCaps' announcers were laughing when Franmil Reyes stole a base, pointing out that his (now) seven stolen bases are not an indication that he is slow, but rather at 6’5”, 240, it takes a lot to get him going - similar to a locomotive. Reyes then showed more speed by legging out a triple in the gap and then scored when he saw daylight between the catcher and the ball, when it was ruled a pass ball.

Prospect Watch With two more walks tonight Jose Urena has now walked more than he has struck out on the season: 21 to 20. While that is quite an accomplishment for anyone, last year Urena had 92 strikeouts compared to only 21 walks in 63 games. This year he has 21 walks in just 24 games.
AZL Reds 4 – AZL Padres 1
Key Statistics: RHP Joel Linares 6 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K (L, 1-1); 1B Brad Zunica 1-4.
Prospect Watch AZL Padres managed just four hits and did not have an RBI as they were beaten by the Reds. Bryant Aragon the just turned 17, and the Mexican catching phenom went 0-3, with three strikeouts. After starting 5-11 he has gone hitless in his last two games while striking out six times.
