MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: July 18

El Paso is posponed and San Antonio holds on for a wild one. Neither Lake Elsinore or Fort Wayne can get their offenses going and the Dust Devils and the AZL Padres combine for zero runs on Saturday night.

The Chihuahuas and Fresno Grizzlies game was postponed due to inclement weather. The two teams will play a doubleheader Sunday.

Missions 11 - Midland Rockhounds 10

Key Statistics:2B Taylor Lindsey 1-4, HR (4) 2 RBI, 2 BB; CF Alberth Martinez 2-4, 2B; DH Hunter Renfroe 3-5; RF Yeison Asencio 4-5, 2B; SS Diego Goris 2-5, RBI; LF Kyle Gaedele 3-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI; RHP Casey Kelly 4.0 IP 5 H 3 R 2 ER 2 BB 3 K; RHP Stephen Kohlscheen (W, 3-1) 3.0 IP 2 H K; RHP Michael Dimock 1.0 IP K; RHP Tayron Guerrero 0.2 IP 2 H 5 R 0 ER 2 BB; RHP Adam Cimber 0.1 H 2 R 2 ER 2 BB.

Prospect Watch:Up 11-3, with two outs in the ninth inning and one of the best closer’s in the organization on the mound, the Missions nearly lost the game as the RockHounds came within a run of tying the game before Adam Cimber was able to record the last out. It should have been a one-two-three inning, but a fielding error by CF Martiniez prolonged the inning...Renfroe in now hitting .364/.400/.818 in July and was the MadFriars Player of the Month in June, so reports of his demise are greatly exaggerated...with Travis Jankowski at the Pan-Am Games, Alberth Martiniez is getting a chance to play regularly and putting up his best numbers of the year with a .292/.381/.462 line. Martinez has quite a few tools, but has always struggled with eight starts Casey Kelly is 0-2 with a 4.69 ERA.

Modesto Nuts 5 - Storm 3

Key Statistics:DH Auston Bousfield 2-3, BB; 1B Miguel Del Castillo 1-4, HR (2), RBI; RHP Rafael De Paula 6.2 IP 11 H 5 R 4 ER 3 BB 2 K.

Prospect Watch:The Storm dropped their fourth game in their past five outings...2B Fernando Perez has really been struggling in July with a .154/.185/.308 line, while Auston Bousfield is rebounding from a low June (.244/.337/.295) with a good July - .293/.369/.328. He has been a solid all-around player, but only 13 extra-base hits in 235 plate appearances is a little light for the Cal League.

For further reading on the Storm please see the Southwest Riverside News Network.

Dayton Dragons 8 - TinCaps 2 eight and half innings (called because of rain)

Key Statistics:2B Luis Urias 1-3, BB; 1B Trae Santos 2-4, RBI; DH Franmil Reyes 2-3; 3B Luis Tejada 2-3; RHP Chris Huffman (L, 3-6) 3.2 IP 5 H 6 R 3 ER BB K.

Prospect Watch:The TinCaps were down 7-0 after five innings and despite putting up two runs later in the game were never really in the rain shortened outing...with an 0-4 night SS Ruddy Giron’s batting average dipped below .300 for the first time all year...if we give an award for Comeback Player of the Year it might be Trae Santos. After two dismal seasons at Short-Season Eugene, Santos, 22, has been an anchor in the middle of the order with 31 extra-base hits this season and a .366 on-base percentage. Throw out a bad April, where he hit .176 and he has been solid.

For further reading on the TinCaps, see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 1 - Dust Devils 0

Key Statistics:1B Ty France 2-4; SS Peter Van Gansen 1-4, 2B; 2B Kodie Tidwell 1-2, 2B, BB; RHP Brett Kennedy 2.2 IP 3 H R ER 5 K.

Prospect Watch:Not a good night for offense in the Padres’ system and it continues for the Dust Devils. Tri-Cities has been hot, with six victories in their last seven games before tonight...Best players at this level so far have been SS Peter Van Gansen at .316/.396/.418 and OF Justin Pacchioli .281/.434/.281 with a team leading eight stolen bases...also keep an eye on infielder Kodie Tidwell, who hit well in the AZL earlier this month, and is a better player than he is showing right now.

For further reading on the Dust Devils, see the Tri-City Herald.

AZL Rangers 4 - AZL Padres 0

Key Statistics:RF Alan Garcia 2-4, 2B; 3B Kyle Overstreet 1-3; RHP Adrian De Horta (L, 0-2) 5.0 IP 6 H 4 R 4 ER BB 5 K.

Prospect Watch:Not much to see as the AZL Padres were held to only three hits and lost their fourth game in five outings....Adrian De Horta is having a tough year with an 8.83 ERA. He was drafted in the eighth round of the 2013 draft and never really got off the ground in Eugene or Fort Wayne last year....Most interesting prospect in the AZL for me is 1B/DH Brad Zunica, six-foot-six, 254 pounds and only 19. He’s a left-handed hitter and came into the game with a .310/.33/.414 slash line.
