MadFriars Daily Farm Report: July 22

With Abraham Almonte promoted to the show, Travis Jankowski got the bump up to AAA and immediately made an impact. El Paso exploded for 15 runs as they demolished Sacramento.

Chihuahuas 15 – Sacramento River Cats 2

Prospect Watch Tim Federowicz continued his rehab going 0-1 in a pinch hitting appearance. Hours after being promoted Travis Jankowski appeared in his first AAA game, doubling in his first at bat… El Paso exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning thanks largely to a bases loaded double by Alex Dickerson. One of five hits on the day for Dickerson who raised his batting average over .308.

Frisco RoughRiders 6 - Missions 5

Prospect Watch With Travis Jankowski promoted to AAA, Alberth Martinez officially took over the starting centerfield job, and he continues to impress. Since he took over, when Jankowski went to the PanAm games, Martinez has a slash line of .306/.372/.435 with nearly as many extra base hits (10) as he strikeouts (11).

Lake County Captains 3 - TinCaps 0

Key Statistics: RHP Michael Kelly 4 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K (L, 5-3); 3B Luis Tejada 2-3; 2B Luis Urias 1-4

Prospect Watch Over the last week the TinCap offense has gone iced cold. Giron, who was discussed yesterday, got the day off. Michael Gettys took the leadoff spot and proceeded to hit leadoff, and strike out at every at-bat. Over the last three games, Gettys has gone 1-12 with eight punchouts. After a hot start to July, Gettys has gotten ice cold; fast. He is 1-17, and five for his last 30.

Dust Devils 4 – Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 2

Key Statistics: RHP Griffin Russell 3.2 IP, H, 4 K (W 2-1); SS Peter Van Gansen 2-5, RS, RBI; DH Justin Pacchioli 3-4, RS; 2B Mitch Morales 3-4, 2B, RBI.

Prospect Watch After bouncing around leagues at the beginning of the short-season Mitch Morales looks to have settled in nicely in Tri-City. Last years 29th round selection is hitting a crisp .386/.444/.474 in 15 games. This is despite being given the term “utility infielder,” and never knowing where in the lineup he would hit, let alone if he would be in the lineup, or where he would play. Over the last three days Morales has gone 8-13.
