Prospect Watch: CF Travis Jankowski is off to a torrid 15-for-28 start since being promoted to Triple-A. Jankowski tripled and drove in a run in the El Paso victory. Jankowski is making a case for a promotion to San Diego In the near future. He would give San Diego the true centerfielder and lead-off guy they have been lacking … LHP Robbie Erlin returned from a short trip from the 7-day disabled list and pitched well in 3.2 innings. Erlin has had a pretty rough year, pitching to a 6.03 ERA, but he would be a candidate to start in San Diego if the team is very active at the trade deadline.

Missions 6 – Frisco RoughRiders 4
Prospect Watch: SS Diego Goris blasted a three-run shot in the victory, his fifth of the year. Goris, 24, has missed a lot of time with injuries this year. Goris had a big year last season with Lake Elsinore, but he has struggled a bit in the Texas League. Goris is hitting .264/.288/.353 on the season. Goris can play 2nd and 3rd, but his lack of plate discipline inhibits him from being a true prospect … 3B Duanel Jones knocked in the other three runs for San Antonio, including a go-ahead, two-run single in the 8th inning. Jones, 22, has to be a candidate for most improved player in the Padres’ system for 2015. Perhaps starting the year in Fort Wayne motivated Jones, because he dominated the competition with a .918 OPS. Since a promotion to Double-A, Jones has been solid in San Antonio, posting a batting line of .269/.312/.408 in 57 games for the Missions.
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 10 – Storm 5
Key Statistics: CF Auston Bousfield, 2-for-5, (2) 2B; RF Nick Schulz, 2-for-5, 2B, RBI; SS Chase Jensen, 3-for-4; 2B Felipe Blanco, 2-for-4, HR (1), 2B, 2RBI; LF Nick Torres, 2-for-5, 2B, RBI; LHP Brad Wieck (L, 0-4), 3.2IP, 8H, 6ER, 2BB, 2K.
Prospect Watch: The Storm pounded out 14 hits, including 7 extra-base hits, but they still lost big on the road. The loss dropped Lake Elsinore to 25 games under .500 … LHP Brad Wieck turned his worst effort as a member of the Padres’ organization, lasting just 3.2 innings. The 6’9 lefty allowed eight hits in six earned runs in the loss. Wieck, 23, pitched well in Low-A in the Mets organization, but he has struggled a bit since his promotion to Lake Elsinore. The lefty hurler has a 5.90 ERA in six California League starts … SS Chase Jensen has played well for the Storm, and had three hits, all singles Thursday night. Jensen has shown some surprising pop, with four homers in 87 at-bats for Lake Elsinore. Jensen has been playing virtually every day since Jose Rondon was promoted to San Antonio.
TinCaps 8 – Dayton Dragons 4
Key Statistics: CF Michael Gettys, 2-for-4, 2RS, BB; SS Ruddy Giron, 3-for-5, 2RBI, RS; RF Franmil Reyes, 2-for-3, BB, 2RBI; 1B Trae Santos, 1-for-3, HR (9), BB, RBI; LHP Travis Radke, (W, 1-0) 6IP, 4H, 2R, ER, 2K; RHP Jimmy Brosoban, (S, 5) 2IP, H, R, 3K.
Prospect Watch: SS Ruddy Giron is heating up again, and he helped carry the TinCaps back to .500. Giron had three hits, to raise his batting average to .313. Giron, 18, is 9-for-14 over the last three games. Giron was caught stealing, and has is now 13-for-23 on stolen base attempts for Fort Wayne. Giron is also in a bit of a power drought – he hasn’t homered since July 6th … LHP Travis Radke turned in his second straight solid start for TinCaps, allowing just one earned run in six innings to earn the victory. Radke, a 25th round pick in 2014, has been a vagabond in the system this year, pitching at three different levels. Overall, he is having a solid season, with a 3.00 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 45 innings of work.

Prospect Watch: The Dust Devils offense continues to pound Northwest League pitching, as the squad scored six in the eighth inning to pull away … LF Jose Carlos Urena busted out of a mini funk with three hits in the win. The 20-year-old outfielder had been marred in a 3-for-23 slump before a three-hit game Thursday night. Urena has had a solid campaign for the Dust Devils, and leads the Northwest League in walks with 28 … LHP Jose Castillo pitched five solid innings, allowing two earned runs, but he did not factor in the decision. The 19-year-old has flashed some potential this season, and has pitched reasonably well in Pasco, as evidenced by his 3.86 ERA. He will definitely be a name to watch the rest of the season.

Prospect Watch: 18-year-old Jean Garcia struggled, allowing seven earned runs in 3.1 innings. Garcia has had a rough time in his first experience in the Arizona League, and has an 8.38 ERA on the season.
