MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: August 10

Spokane Indians 9 – Dust Devils 5

Key Statistics: C Austin Allen, 2-for-5, 2RBI; 3B Carlos Belen, 2-for-5, 3B, 2B, RS; 2B Kodie Tidwell, 2-for-3, HR (1), BB, 2B; RHP Brett Kennedy (L, 0-2), 1.2IP, 4H, 4ER, BB, 3K.

Prospect Watch: Alright, finally we have a team that actually took the field tonight. Tri-City fell behind 6-0, before rallying to make things somewhat interesting… Second baseman Kodie Tidwell blasted his first professional homer in the loss. Tidwell also stroked a double and drew a walk Monday night. Tidwell was drafted in the 26th round this year, and began the season with the AZL Padres. Like many of his teammates in Tri-City, Tidwell has shown a keen eye at the plate, as evidenced by a 19:16 walk-to-strikeout ratio in his short time in the Pacific Northwest…Third baseman Carlos Belen had a pair of extra-base-hits, including a triple in the loss. Belen was shown flashes of potential in the Northwest League, but he is far from a finished product. Belen leads the NWL in strikeouts with 75, which includes a strikeout rate of nearly 47%. He has also struggled mightily in the field, as the 1-year-old has committed 12 errors in 36 games. The raw power remains intriguing, and Belen is still a name to watch it the system.

For further reading on the Dust Devils, see the Tri-City Herald.

AZL Cubs 6 – AZL Padres 0

Key Statistics: : SS Daniel Bravo, 2-for-4; 2B Josh VanMeter, 3-for-5; RHP Manuel Gonzalez, 4IP, 6H, 6ER, 3BB, 2K.

Prospect Watch: : Second baseman Josh VanMeter had three singles, and is now 8-for-12 in his three game rehab stint in the desert. VanMeter, 20, broke his leg earlier this season while playing with Fort Wayne. Nothing has been officially announced, but it seems likely that VanMeter will join Fort Wayne soon, as they continue to chase the postseason. Incidentally, this Sunday is Josh VanMeter bobblehead day in Fort Wayne. VanMeter hails from a suburb of Fort Wayne.
