MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: September 12

El Paso's season comes to an end despite Renfroe's two home runs by Tri-City, the last remaining Padres' minor league team still playing, wins to set up a deciding Game 3 for all the marbles.

Fresno Grizzlies 7 - Chihuahuas 4

Key Statistics:RF Hunter Renfroe 2-4, 2 HR (3), 4 RBI; SS Hector Gomez 2-4; PH Casey McElroy 1-1; RHP Casey Kelly (L, 0-1) 3.1 IP 4 H 5 R 5 ER 3 BB 2 K HR; RHP Dale Thayer 1.0 IP 2 H 2 R ER.

Prospect Watch:The Chihuahuas season came to an end on Saturday night as Fresno, the affiliate of the prospect laden Houston Astros, tooke the series three games to one....Casey Kelly got the start and simply caught too much of the plate too much of the time. In three starts in Triple-A he had a 6.75 ERA....All of El Paso’s runs came on Hunter Renfroe home runs. A solo shot to center in the sixth and a three-run one to left in the eighth. Renfroe hit nine home runs in 25 games with El Paso and he is certainly making a case to be in San Diego in 2016...Have to wonder if this is the last game in the Padres’ organization for 1B Cody Decker, OF Jake Goebbert, RHP Jerry Sullivan and RHP Dale Thayer. All four can become free agents and if they are not protected by San Diego all should have multiple options with other organizations.

Dust Devils 4 - Hillsboro Hops 2

Key Statistics:RF Justin Pacchioli 1-3, RBI, BB; DH Nick Vilter 2-4, HR (1), 2 RBI; RHP Emmanuel Ramirez 1.0 IP 2 H 2 R 2 ER 2 BB K; RHP Brett Kennedy 3.0 IP H BB 2 K; RHP Wilson Santos (W, 2-0) 2.2 IP 3 K; RHP Phil Maton (S, 1) 1.0 IP H 2 K.

Prospect Watch:The Dust Devils survived a rough start by Emanuel Ramirez, who has been one of the better pitchers this year in the AZL and for Tri-Cities, to scratch out a victory to even the championship series...After Ramirez’s struggles, the Dust Devils’ bullpen held the Hops to a pair of hits and no runs...Vilter, who has had an up and down season, was the player of the game with a solo home run, a pair of RBI and he scored the go-ahead run on an RBI by Pacchioli in the seventh...Phil Maton, who struck out 58 batters in 32.2 innings against only five walks and 23 hits during the season, closed out the game...the deciding Game 3 for the whole enchilada will be on Sunday at 7:15...the game will be a home game for the Dust Devil who were 25-13 this season at home, the best in the Northwest League.
