Chihuahuas 11 – New Orleans Zephyrs 7
Key Stats: RHP Daniel McCutchen 5 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (W, 5-2); CF Manuel Margot 3-4, 2B, 3 RS, RBI, BB, SB (13); LF Alex Dickerson 3-4, HR (6), 3 RS, 3 RBI; RF Hunter Renfroe 2-5, HR (8), 2 RBI; C Rocky Gale 3-3, HR (2), 3 RBI
Prospect Watch: What an outfield in El Paso. After both Dickerson and Renfroe homered yesterday in the win, they followed up the performance by both hitting home runs again in todays game. In fact that home runs came in back to back innings. In today’s game, Dickerson flexed his muscle hitting a no doubt home run, while Renfroe hit a ball that the left fielder called for in medium left before losing it, and watching the ball land 5 feet past the wall… The odd man out in this miracle outfield is actually the highest rated prospect and the youngest of the bunch in Manuel Margot. Margot added three hits and three runs, including being on base for Dickerson’s home run in the second. Margot is currently riding a 16 game streak of reaching base safely, including hits in 14 of the 16 games. During the stretch Margot has walked seven times, struck out eight times, and stolen eight bases. During that time he has also raised his batting average 43 points and his OPS from .666 to .777 (baseball is great at having fun with numbers).
Corpus Christi Hooks 2 – Missions 1 (13 innings)
Key Stats: RHP Luis Diaz 6.2 IP, 6 H, ER, 3 BB, 4 K; 2B/3B Alexi Amarista 2-5, RBI; C Ryan Miller 2-4, RS, BB; 3B/2B Nelson Ward 2-5, 2B
Prospect Watch: Ninja sighting!! After missing the last few weeks, Amarista was back on the diamond. The Lil’ Ninja started the game at second before moving over the third in the seventh. While he was supposed to play the entire game, they took him out in the 12th. It should not be an injury concern as none of the batters in the 11th hit it in his general direction…. Its hard to win games when you’re “heart of the order” which today was Rondon, Bousfield, and Torres, went a combined 0-15 with 9 punch outs.
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 4 – Storm 2 (10 innings)
Key Stats: RHP Chris Huffman 6 IP, H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K; CF Franchy Cordero 2-4, 3B, RBI; LF Luis Tejada 2-4, HR (3)
Prospect Watch: How do you measure progress? For Franchy Cordero his OPS is nearly 100 points higher than last year, and he has already hit four times as many triples than he did last year. On the other side he is on pace to strike out more, and while his numbers have improved they are still really bad hitting a combined .258/.294/.,387… Also Walker Lockett was promoted to Lake Elsinore.
TinCaps 4 – Lansing Lugnuts 3
Key Stats: RHP Jean Cosme 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 7 K; SS Rudy Giron 2-4; CF Michael Gettys 1-3, 2B, RS, BB, SB (16); DH Brad Zunica 1-4, 2B, 4 RBI
Prospect Watch: It has been a really tough year for Rudy Giron. After setting the MidWest on fire last year, he was rightfully disappointed when he did not get priomoted to Lake Elsinore. Instead he is back in Fort Wayne adjusting to the cold and the entire new team. This is his second year with the team, and his two hits tonight gave him his first back to back mulltihit games for the first time since last year in Fort Wayne.
