Chihuahuas 10 – Fresno Grizzles 6
Key Stats: RHP Michael Dimock 2.1 IP, H, 4 K (W, 1-0); CF Manuel Margot 2-6, 2RS, 3B, 2 RBI; LF Alex Dickerson 3-4, 2B, 3B, RS, RBI, 2 IBB; DH Hunter Renfroe 3-6, 2B, RS, 3 RBI; 1B Ryan Schimpf 3-6, 2 2B, HR (12), 2 RS, 2 RBI; C Rocky Gale 4-5, RS, RBI; SS Nick Noonan 4-5, 2 2B, 2 RS
Prospect Watch: Entering today the Chihuahuas were already first in all of baseball in hits with 600. They then added a team record 23 more. The starting nine featured seven hitters hitting above .300 with Rocky Gale now at .291. LF Alex Dickerson finished just a triple shy of the cycle yesterday, then tripled in his first at bat today. He again came within one hit of a cycle adding in two intentional walks. Since his 29 game hit streak was broken he has gone 8-10, 5 RS, 2 2B, 3B, HR, 6 RBI, 4 BB, K… Manuel Margot currently has an eight game hitting streak. During that time he has gone 17-38 (.447) with 3 2B, 2 3B, 11 RS, 4 RBI, BB, 2 K. The speedy leadoff hitter is also on pace to score over 100 runs and steal 30 bases this season.
NW Arkansas Naturals 4 - Missions 3
Key Stats: RHP Kyle Lloyd 4 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, BB, 5 K; RHP Kyle McGrath 2 IP, H, BB, 4 K; LF Nick Torres 3-4, 2B, HR (5), RBI; 1B, Taylor Lindsey 3-4, 2B, HR (4), RBI
Prospect Watch: RHP Kyle McGrath has gone from relative unknown to someone we should keep an eye on. The 23 year old (almost 24), 36th round pick from 2014, last year in Fort Wayne went 3-0 with a 1.70 ERA, 79 K compared to only eight walks in 68.2 innings. Most of us just chalked it up college pitcher fooling young players. However this year he hasn’t changed a bit. Between Lake Elsinore and San Antonio McGrath has struck out 37 hitters in just 27.2 innings while walking only four. Batters are hitting just .181 against him and he has just a 0.76 WHIP.
High Desert Mavericks 6 – Storm 4
Key Stats: RHP Dinelson Lamet 6 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K; CF Franchy Cordero 3-3, 2B, 2 RS, BB; RF Franmil Reyes 1-4, 2B, RS, RBI; SS Javier Guerra 1-4, HR (5), RBI
Prospect Watch: While Dinelson Lamet is still probably a lock for the High A All-Star game as he is 7-1 with a 2.35 ERA. However since May 10th, he has seen his numbers go down, even if just slightly. After allowing five runs over his first seven starts, Lamet has allowed 12 in his last five. His strikeout numbers have also dipped from 9.3 K/9 from his first seven starts to 5.7 K/9 over his last five… Javier Guerra hit his first home run since May 11th, he now has a four game hitting streak for the first time this year. In five games in June he is hitting .300/.348/.550. Really small sample size but optimistic considering his .131/.196/.192 May.
