Padres Abroad

Mexico, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. Nice vacation spots and a beautiful place to see year round baseball. Did you know San Diego Padres players are playing in each gorgeous country? Did you know three catchers have seen action down south? Kind of ironic with a pending deal for Ramon Hernandez.

On Saturday, Miguel Ojeda went 1-3, with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored. He is batting .250 on the season and has had his ups and downs. He was hitting over .270 at one point and dropped into the .230's a week ago.

Ojeda has four stolen bases on the season. He is 30-120 and has eleven extra base hits on the season. Ojeda has 19 RBI's and has scored 25 runs in 36 games. He has also walked 2 times to push his OBP to .366 and struck out 19 times.

Humberto Quintero is batting .213 with ten hits in 47 at bats in Venezuela. In 15 games, Quintero has one home run and one triple while knocking in five and scoring twice. He has also hit into six double plays.

Wiki Gonzalez has played in just one game in Venezuela, going 0-4.

Donaldo Mendez continues to struggle in Venezuela. He is now hitting .154 with just six hits in 39 at bats. He has struck out ten times on the season and has scored three runs and knocked in three.

Steve Watkins is 4-2 in the Mexican League. He has started eight games and has an ERA of 3.02. In 47.2 innings he has allowed 44 hits, 16 earned runs, 16 walks, while striking out 37.

Chris Rojas has started three games in Puerto Rico and is 0-0. His ERA is a slim 2.13 as he has allowed three earned runs in 12.2 innings. The low ERA is surprising since he has walked eight and allowed 17 hits.
