Padres Minors: The Return

Two solid pitching performances are wasted on Tuesday as the starters don't get credit for a job well done. Two players returned to action, Xavier Nady and Marcus Nettles, and one player was demoted while another got promoted within the San Diego Padres system.

Portland lost 1-0

Xavier Nady returned to the lineup and went 1-for-3 with a strike out. Jon Knott was the only player to record two hits and extended his hitting streak to eight games. Ben Risinger was the only Beaver to have an extra base hit.

Justin Germano, making his second start with Portland tossed 5.2 innings of one run ball and took the loss. Germano has two earned runs in 11.2 innings pitched since his promotion to Portland and has yet to earn a victory.

Mobile lost 8-5

Alan Webb pitched for the fourth time in five games and took the loss. He allowed three runs on one hit, two walks and a hit batsmen. It marked the first time Webb has allowed any runs at the Double-A level.

Josh Barfield extended his hitting streak to seven games. During the stretch he has only had one multi-hit game. He is 8-for-31 during the span of his hitting streak, a non-descript .258 average over the course of the streak. So when all is said and done, Barfield is still only hitting .238 on the season.

Todd Donovan belted his second homer of the season and Jesse Roman belted his third.

Chris Rojas last pitched in a game on May 8 and was shelled for four runs in one inning. He has now allowed 12 hits, nine runs, three walks, and has hit two batters in his last six innings of work.

Joe Gerber was demoted with the addition of Nady to Portland. Ronnie Merrill was promoted to Mobile and has a four game hitting streak between two Leagues.

Lake Elsinore won 4-2

After allowing eight runs his last time out, Gabe Ribas allowed one earned run on Tuesday in 5.1 innings pitched.

Kennard Jones has tied the season high among minor leaguers with a ten game hitting streak. Freddy Guzman and Paul McAnulty have equaled the feat and been denied in the quest for 11. Jones is 19-for-49 over the course of the streak, a .388 average.

Marcus Nettles returned to action with a 1-for-3 night. He also drove in a run, walked once, whiffed once and was caught stealing.

Fort Wayne won 6-5 in 12

Aaron Coonrod had not allowed a hit over his last four games. He allowed two on Tuesday but did not surrender a run. He has gone five games without allowing a run.

Chris Tierney has given up three earned runs over his first two starts in Fort Wayne and has not secured a victory. In 12 innings he has given up 11 hits and struck out eight.

All three times Fernando Valenzuela Jr. had a hit, he drove in runs. The last time he batted was in the eleventh when he drove in Peeter Ramos with a single. He also added a homer that drove in two and another run scoring single. Valenzuela is 8-for-18 over his last four games with three extra base hits.

Ramos went 2-for-4 on the night with two walks and had three thefts on the night. He now has nine stolen bases on the season which leads the team.
