Padres lose lead again, Phillies win

Chase Utley made his first night in the fifth spot in the order a productive one, driving in three runs to lead the Phillies to a 5-4 win over the Padres. Utley's eighth inning heroics ruined a strong outing from former Phillies farmhand Adam Eaton, who shut down the Phillies. The win extended the Phillies winning streak to four games.

Coming into Friday night's game, Chase Utley that gave the Phillies a temporary 1-0 lead.

Mike Lieberthal threw out Burroughs trying to steal for the first out of the inning and Millwood breezed through the rest of the inning.

The Padres would again get to Millwood in the fifth. Eaton bounced a soft grounder back through the middle, which Millwood made a barehand play on to retire Eaton, but then the trouble began. Phil Nevin doubled to right to score Loretta and the Padres suddenly had a 4-1 lead with Eaton cruising.

Eaton - who threw 91 pitches - tired in the seventh and the Phillies started chipping away at the Padres lead. Shawn Wooten then lined out to end the inning.

The Phillies got their first taste of Ryan Madson (3-1) who had pitched the eighth inning for the Phillies.

With Terrence Long doubled to right to put the tying run in scoring position with one out. Worrell bounced back and got Robinson and Loretta to ground out as Worrell notched his fourth save of the year.

The loss went to Otsuka (3-2) who was charged with two earned runs in 2/3 of an inning.

The two teams will play again Saturday night when Justin Germano, who will be making his major league debut for the Padres.

Notes

Since 1995, the Padres have gone 4-5 in the last nine games in which they've played at a National League ballpark for the first time. The Phillies are 6-1 on Fridays this season.
