Todd Donovan, the BayBears leading hitter with a .299 average, suffered the injury when sliding head first into first base on an attempted bunt single in the seventh inning of the game. He left the game immediately.
Donovan was fourth in the Southern League in runs scored, tied for fifth in base hits, and third in stolen bases while leading the BayBears in all three categories.
Donovan will have surgery in San Diego and then return to his home in Connecticut.
