Peavy to pitch for Mobile

Mobile, Ala.—The San Diego Padres announced today that Mobile native and BayBears Hall-of-Fame pitcher Jake Peavy is expected to make an injury rehabilitation start for the BayBears on Sunday, June 27 vs. the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. The game will start at 6:05 PM.

Jake Peavy was leading the National League in earned run average when he was placed on the disabled list in late May. He is 4-2 with a 2.01 ERA in nine starts with the Padres this season. Peavy has not pitched in a game since May 19th due to a strained tendon in his right forearm. He is expected to rejoin the Padres after his start in Mobile and be activated shortly thereafter.

Peavy spent parts of the 2001 and 2002 seasons with the BayBears. He played high school baseball at St. Paul's in Mobile and was drafted by the Padres in 1999.

As part of Jake Peavy weekend, the BayBears also announced today that on Saturday, June 27, the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a set of BayBears 2002 baseball cards featuring Peavy. The set is available for $10.00 in the BayBears Gift Shop but will be free to the first 1,000 fans on Saturday. Additionally, during every inning break on Saturday and Sunday, the BayBears will give away a Jake Peavy bobblehead doll. Gates will open at 6:00 PM on Saturday and 5:00 PM on Sunday.
