Josh Barfield and Mike Thompson honored
This marks the seventh time this season a BayBear has won this award, the previous high for a season was five times in 1998. Southern League All-Star Josh Barfield was named the Southern League Hitter of Week after going 7-for-14 performance vs. the Huntsville Stars. He hit two homers, while posting a .929 slugging percentage. Barfield is currently second in runs batted in (60) and is tied for eighth in homers (13). He was ranked by Baseball America as Padres top prospect for 2004, was the 2003 California League Most Valuable Player, and the Padres Minor League Player of the Year in 2003. Mike Thompson was named the Southern League Pitcher of the week for the second time this season, he also received the honor on the week of June 18-24. Thompson's eight inning, four hit performance against the Huntsville Stars gave him a 1-0 record for the week. Thompson is a 5-0 with a 3.18 ERA this season for the BayBears.
