Joel Santo from the San Cristobal, Dominican Republic was signed by the Padres as a non-drafted Free Agent March 6, 2002. Last season he pitched for Idaho Falls (Pioneer League) and was 8-7 with a 4.54 ERA.
Santo went 0-3 with a 4.60 ERA in five starts for Peoria. he gave up 20 hits in 15.2 innings, walking nine. He has given up 13 runs on the year, eight earned and has struck out nine.
Santo will make his first start in the NWL and as an Emerald on
Wednesday here at Civic.
OF/INF Chris Kolkhorst bats left throws right, 10th pick by the Padres in 2004 and just recently signed. This season for Rice University he batted .371 and had only 20 strikeouts in 221 plate appearances. Chris was a member of the 2003 Rice National Championship team. That season Chris was All-NCAA Houston Regional (most outstanding player); All-Western Athletic Conference (first team); All-College World Series,
and hit .364 in the series and led the Owls with a .333 postseason average.
Kohkhorst batted .280 with seven hits in 25 at bats for Peoria. He had a double, a triple, two stolen bases and three RBI's in seven games.
