The Wizards pitching staff lost a member of the bullpen when right-hander Sazi Guthrie was promoted to Lake Elsinore.
Guthrie leaves the Wizards after posting a 2-4 record with one save and a 4.23 earned run average in 35 appearances (three starts). In 76 2/3 innings, Guthrie allowed 84 hits and 32 walks while striking out 57.
Guthrie had given up runs in eah of his last five appearances with the Wizards, although most were in long relief with one start.
Guthrie signed with the San Diego Padres organization after spending the 2003 season with the Gary Railcats (Northern Independent League).
With Guthrie's promotion, the Wizards roster is now at 24 players, one below the Midwest League maximum-allowable players of 25.
