Portland lost 4-0
Seth McCauley made his Pacific Coast League debut, lining out as a pinch hitter in the eighth.
Kerry Robinson had his third straight multi-hit game and was the only Beaver to have two hits on the day. Robinson is 7-for-13 with four stolen bases and seven runs scored over that time span – and that includes Monday where Portland was shutout.
Chris Oxspring made his first start of the year, going five innings and allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits and a walk while striking out six. Oxspring went 6-4 with a 3.99 ERA in 2004. He allowed four runs or more five of his 17 starts.
Mobile lost 5-2
Kennard Jones, the only BayBear with two hits, doubled to left center in the bottom of the eighth to drive in two runs. It is the third time this year that he has driven in two in the same game and gives him seven on the year through five games. Jones had just nine RBI's in 82 games for Mobile in 2004, getting his seventh in game 69.
Jose Oyervidez made his first appearance since 2003, spending the 2004 season recovering from Tommy John Surgery. In his Mobile debut, Oyervidez allowed two runs on two hits with three strikeouts and three walks in four innings of work, taking the loss. Oyervidez made 31 appearances for Eugene in 2003, striking out the side on four separate occasions, including four in one inning and whiffing six straight on August 30. He held the opposition to a .175 batting average on the year.
Lefthander Craig Breslow has begun the year with three straight appearances without allowing a run. Breslow had a rocky 2004 season in the California League, allowing four earned runs or more in five relief appearances. Batters also hit .305 off him while playing for High Desert. He has allowed two hits in 5.1 innings so far this year.
