Brad Baker, 24, compiled 28 points on 10 saves and a 1-2 record during the month. In the Rolaids Relief Man program, a pitcher gets three points for each save, two points for each relief win, while losing two points for each relief loss.
At the end of May, Baker ranked first among PCL pitchers with 41 relief points and was tied for fourth among all minor league pitchers.
Currently, Baker leads the PCL with 17 saves and is tied for first among all minor leaguers in the category. Fifty five games into the season, Baker already is tied for third among Beavers' single-season save leaders in the team's five seasons as a San Diego Padres affiliate, and the seven-year pro is more than halfway to the PCL record of 32, set by Tacoma's Todd Williams in 2000.
Baker, who was the Padres Co-Pitcher of the Year in 2004, has converted 17 of his 21 save opportunities with the Beavers this season, notching the save in all but 12 of the team's wins going into Saturday night's game against Tacoma.
For the year, Baker is 1-3 with a 5.84 ERA.
Baker is the first Portland pitcher to secure the Rolaids monthly award since Marty McLeary did so in July 2004.
