Oxspring wins Pitcher of the Week honors

The Pacific Coast League has named Portland Beavers right-handed pitcher Chris Oxspring its Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 6-12.

For the week, Chris Oxspring, 28, was 2-0 with a 1.76 ERA (3er, 15.1ip) and 16 strikeouts, with victories over Tacoma on June 6 and Tucson on June 12 at PGE Park. Moreover, Oxspring is a perfect 4-0 with a 1.76 ERA (6er, 30.2ip) and 27 strikeouts over his last four starts.

For the season, Oxspring, who led his native Australia to a silver medal finish in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, is 5-2 with a 4.65 ERA in 12 starts for the Beavers.

Oxspring's honor gave the Beavers back-to-back Pitcher of the Week awards, as right-handed reliever Brad Baker earned the honor for May 30-June 5.

Albuquerque's Josh Willingham was named the PCL Batter of the Week, hitting .550 with three home runs and eight RBIs.
