Chris Oxspring named Pitcher of the week in PCL

The Pacific Coast League today named Portland right-handed pitcher Chris Oxspring its Pitcher of the Week.

Chris Oxspring, 28, threw a complete-game shutout in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Colorado Springs and was 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in his two starts last week. The right-hander allowed just one run over 13 innings and struck out seven during the seven-day period.

For the season, Oxspring is 9-6 and ranks seventh in the PCL with a 4.12 ERA. His 113 strikeouts on the year rank fourth while his three complete games and two shutouts are tied for the most in the 16-team circuit.

It marked the second time Oxspring garnered the award this season. The right-hander was named the PCL Pitcher of the Week for June 6-12 by going 2-0 with a 1.76 ERA (3er, 15.1ip) in two starts during the week.

Oxspring and Sacramento's Juan Cruz are the only pitchers to be named Pitcher of the Week twice in 2005. It also marked the fourth time this season a Portland pitcher was singled out by the league, as Brad Baker and Justin Germano were additionally tabbed for the award in 2005.
