Storm sweeps Lancaster; On to the Finals

The Lake Elsinore Storm completed the sweep of the Lancaster JayHawks on Monday with an 11-6 spanking. They will move on to face San Jose in the California League Championship series this week.

The first two games of the Championship Series are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at The Diamond. The third game, and if necessary games four and five, will be at San Jose on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The Storm rebounded from the early loss of starting pitcher Luke Steidlmayer to soreness in his throwing forearm.

Fernando Valenzuela Jr. capped a four run third inning with a two-run double with the bases juiced.

Lake Elsinore tacked on four more in the fourth thanks to a two run triple off the bat of Chris Kolkhorst. The leadoff man has scored five runs in the last two games.

Colt Morton added his sixth RBI of the three game series and was the only member of the Storm to knock in a run in each game of the series.

Dirk Hayhurst got the win in relief of Steidlmayer, allowing four runs on ten hits in 4.1 innings.

"We battled," Storm manager Rick Renteria said. "Dirk did a great job of avoiding the big inning."
