Padres fill vacant positions in minors

The San Diego Padres filled out the rest of their minor league affiliates' staff and roving instructors for the 2006 season.

WIth the Portland and Mobile coaching staffs set, the Padres announced the rest of the staff that will lead their respective affiliates in 2006.

The Single-A Lake Elsinore Storm will feature Rick Renteria at the helm for the third consecutive season. Steve Webber, who served as pitching coach at Fort Wayne in 2004-05, will assume that role with the Storm in 2006, while Tom Tornincasa will serve as hitting coach for the second consecutive year. Jason Haeussinger enters his sixth season as the Padres Single-A California League trainer.

Randy Ready will manage Single-A Fort Wayne in 2006, his third season as the Wizards skipper. It is the first time in franchise history that the same manager will remain the same for three straight years. Tom Bradley, who was the pitching coach with the Toronto Blue Jays' Single-A Lansing Lugnuts affiliate in 2005 will join the Wizards in that same capacity. Max Venable returns to the Wizards for this second season with the club as hitting coach. He led the hitters to a .252 batting average.

Single-A Eugene will be managed by Doug Dascenzo who was the Padres' minor league Outfield/Baserunning Instructor in 2005. He will be joined by hitting coach Joe Ferguson who served as the Padres minor league Catching Instructor in 2005. Pitching Coach Wally Whitehurst returns for his second season with the Emeralds, while Athletic Trainer JoJo Tarantino enters his third.

Carlos Lezcano returns to manage the Arizona Padres in the Arizona Rookie League. Dave Rajisch who previously served as pitching coach at Lake Elsinore (2005) and Eugene (2003-04), will join Lezcano in that role. Hitting coach Luis Quiñones will return for his third season with the Padres, and Wade Yamasaki will serve as Athletic Trainer for his third season.

San Diego's minor league roving instructors for 2006 will consist of Pitching Coordinator Mike Couchee, Hitting Coordinator Rob Deer, Infield Coordinator Tony Franklin, Strength and Conditioning Coordinator Danny Stinnett and Minor League Medical Coordinator John Maxwell. Tom Gamboa will also serve as Defensive Coordinator/Staff Development, while Carlos Hernandez, who returned to the Major League Padres during the latter part of 2005 as a bullpen catcher, will now serve as Latin American Instructor/Roving Catching Instructor.

The staff for the rookie-level Dominican Summer League Padres as well as the Athletic Trainer for Fort Wayne will be announced at a later date.
