Padres officially name Wade pro scout

The San Diego Padres today named Ed Wade as a professional scout and Josh Stein as Coordinator of Baseball Research and Advance Scouting.

Wade, 50, joins the Padres after spending the previous 16 seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, serving the last eight (1998-2005) as the club's Vice President and General Manager. With Wade as the head of baseball operations, the Phillies won 86 or more games in four of eight seasons while the farm system produced 2005 National League Rookie of the Year Ryan Howard. Wade, whose professional baseball career began in 1977 with the Phillies, has also held positions with the Houston Astros and Pittsburgh Pirates organizations. He will be covering the Eastern and International Leagues for the Padres.

Stein, 28, has worked in various capacities within both the scouting and player development departments for the Padres since 2003 providing research and analysis for Major League transactions and the Rule 4 and 5 Drafts among other areas. A San Diego native, Stein is a graduate of both UC Berkeley and the UC Hastings College of Law. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in November, 2005.
