Right-handed pitcher Stephen Andrade was claimed off outright waivers by the Kansas City Royals today.
, 28, went 1-0 with a 2.65 ERA (2 ER/8.0 IP) and 15 strikeouts in six Cactus League appearances for the Padres in 2006. Over parts of five minor league seasons in the Los Angeles Angels (2001-2004) and Toronto Blue Jays (2005) organizations, Andrade has a career record of 13-8 with a 2.65 ERA (74 ER/251.1 IP) and 34 saves in 188 relief appearances.
Andrade was acquired through the Rule 5 draft during the offseason, meaning he had to be exposed to waivers and offered back to Tampa Bay before he could be sent to the minor leagues.
With the subtraction of Andrade, the Padres now have 34 players on the club's 40-man roster and 32 players in camp.
