Padres Prospect Power Rankings 2006: Week II

The weekly prospect power rankings are back. Who dropped off the map? Who are the new additions? Is anyone closing the gap and trying to push for a spot? Find out now.

1) Justin Leone – 3B - Portland

He has cooled down but is still money in the Padres' system. A .541 on base percentage is pretty good as are his eight homers and 23 RBI's. Six errors are lone concern. Last Week: 1

2) Seth Johnston – 2B – Fort Wayne

Blooming with confidence, Johnston has been on base in every game this year and owns an 11-game hitting streak. He has 25 hits through 16 games. Last Week: NR

3) Brandon Higelin – RP – Fort Wayne

Ten scoreless innings to begin the year for the reliever is tops amongst all Padres minor leaguers. And the streak is still alive. Last Week: 8

4) Bobby Hill – 2B - Portland

He has been good in all phases of the game. On base percentage of .420 to begin the year and has no errors through 16 games at second. Last Week: 7

5) Daryl Jones – 1B/DH – Fort Wayne

Hits in five of his last seven games but drops 100 points in batting average. Crushing left-handed pitching at a .444 clip but 21 K's are a concern. Last Week: 2

6) Will Venable – OF – Fort Wayne

Twelve for 26 over the last week with seven doubles, six walks and five RBI's. Hitting .476 with men on base. Last Week: NR

7) Jose Oyervidez – SP - Mobile

He gave up his first runs of the year but still sports a 1.62 ERA and has given up just three hits in 18 at bats with runners in scoring position. Last Week: 3

8) Kyle Stutes – RP – Fort Wayne

Gave up his first run of the year on Sunday and surrendered his first hit to lefties the same night but sports a .172 average against. Last Week: NR

9) Cesar Ramos – SP – Lake Elsinore Has given up 13 baserunners in 16 innings of work with three runs surrendered over three California League starts. Last Week: NR

10) Colt Morton – C – Lake Elsinore

Slugging percentage of .571 is second in the system and his eight doubles ranks second in the California League. Last Week: 5

On the bubble (alphabetical):

Ray Chang (FW shortstop) sports more walks than strikeouts and a .417 OBP.

Jonathan Ellis (LE reliever) has limited the opposition to a .194 average against.

Jon Link (FW reliever) owns two wins in relief and three hits allowed in nine innings.

John Madden (FW closer) hasn't given up an earned run and is the new closer in Fort Wayne.

Paul McAnulty (PB first baseman) has a seven-game hitting streak.
