On the heels of a two-homer night, first baseman Walter Young was released by the San Diego Padres. Jon Adkins, previously with the big league club, returns to the Portland Beavers to take his place.
Jon Adkins returns to the Beavers after making three appearances with the Padres. With the Padres, he was 0-1 with a 10.11 ERA (3er, 2.2ip) in three relief appearances. Adkins is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and two saves in five appearances with the Beavers this season. He had his contract purchased by the Padres on April 18 and was optioned back to Portland on April 23 when outfielder Mike Cameron was reinstated from the disabled list.
Young batted .200 (7-for-35) with three home runs and six RBIs in 13 games with Portland.
The Beavers' active roster is at its 24-man limit.
