Padres Prospect Power Rankings V

Two players from the bubble make serious waves and three more who weren't ranked throw in the wrench in this week's MadFriars.com Prospect Power Rankings. Promotions to the big leagues claimed two as well – could a third, currently on the bubble, make the move. Lake Elsinore is blanked as Fort Wayne continues to rule the day.

Stats through Sunday

1) Jack Cust – OF - Portland

Forty walks in 34 games – that is Ruthian. He is also tied for the team lead in homers to go with his .470 OBP. Last Week: 1

2) Kyle Blanks – 1B/DH – Fort Wayne

Hits in seven straight games, a .451 OBP to lead the Midwest League and the second best average in the league. Last Week: OTB

3) Nic Crosta – OF – Fort Wayne

Actually has a higher OBP at .481 – best in the system, but falls short on the qualifying. Sixteen RBI's in 18 games and a 1.068 OPS. Last Week: OTB

4) Drew Macias – OF – Mobile

Four straight multi-hit games and an eight game hitting streak. Is fourth among the nine batters in the Southern League with an average over .300 at .327. Last Week: NR

5) George Kottaras – C - Mobile

Has been on base in nine straight and leads the club in on base percentage and slugging. Amazingly has just one RBI over his last 13 games. Last Week: 9

6) Fabian Jimenez – SP – Fort Wayne

A 16 inning scoreless streak from a lefty who has teased is worthy of inclusion. He has given up just eight hits over that span. Last Week: NR

7) Seth Johnston – 2B – Fort Wayne

Homers in successive games with one an inside-the-parker. Still exciting the fans despite a drop in average. Has reached base in 11 straight games. Last Week: 3

8) John Madden - CL – Fort Wayne

His first two earned runs came this week but still just three walks allowed in 12.2 innings and a 0.95 WHIP. He has faced the minimum in six of his outings. Last Week: 4

9) Brian Sikorski – CL – Portland

Forty strikeouts in 24.1 innings. Add in a respectable .223 average against and the righty is dealing. Last Week: NR

10) Daryl Jones – 1B/DH – Fort Wayne

Ten RBI's over his eight games and eight coming in his last four games playing first base. He is also batting .364 against lefties. Last Week: 8

On the bubble (alphabetical):

Tim Brown is hitting .370 in May to erase a .213 April.

Brent Carter rebounded from a down start to post 14 innings of scoreless ball.

Luis Cruz nets seven RBI's in two games and over half his hits have gone for extra bases.

Mike Ekstrom continues to provide consistent quality starts with a 2.42 ERA in the California League.

Brandon Higelin has walked four over 18.2 innings and sports a 0.96 ERA.

Neil Jamison allowed his first earned run since his first game with the Storm but still owns a 1.42 ERA.

Mike Thompson is 5-0 and has gone 8.1 without allowing a run – a big league call looms.

Jared Wells is close but injury has prevented him from making the leap.

Dropped:

Jon Adkins - A promotion to the big league club is probably a little better than being on the weekly power rankings.

Paul McAnulty – Two guys on our list...perhaps this is being read.

Jonathan Ellis

Justin Leone

Will Venable

This list is compiled on a weekly basis through the year and while special weight is given to the week that passed, the main criteria is based on the season as a whole.
