Cesar Carrillo to the DL

The Portland Beavers today placed right-handed pitcher Cesar Carrillo on the disabled list (retroactive to May 25) with a strained right forearm flexor and added first baseman/outfielder Paul McAnulty to the active roster.

Cesar Carrillo, 22, was transferred to Portland on May 19 but has yet to pitch for the Beavers. In nine starts with Class AA Mobile to start the season, the second-year professional was 1-3 with a 3.02 ERA (17er, 50.2ip) and 43 strikeouts.

A first-round draft pick (18th overall) of the Padres in 2005, Carrillo, the top-rated prospect in the San Diego Padres organization, split his rookie 2005 season between Class A Lake Elsinore and Mobile, posting a 5-2 record with a 4.95 ERA in 12 starts.

Paul McAnulty, 25, was optioned to Portland on Sunday after batting .200 (1-for-5) in seven games with the Padres. Over parts of two major league seasons with San Diego (2005-06), McAnulty has a .207 (6-for-29) career batting average with five runs scored in 29 games.

With the Beavers this season, McAnulty is batting .278 with seven doubles, 21 runs scored, eight home runs and 19 RBIs over 31 games.
