NASHVILLE- Senior hurler Matt Buschmann and two Vanderbilt signees were selected on the first day of Major League Baseball's amateur draft today. Outfielder/Pitcher Kyler Burke (Ooltewah HS/Ooltewah, Tenn.) was the 35th pick of the draft by San Diego in the first round (sandwich pick).
Pitcher Mikie Minor (Forrest HS/Chapel Hill, TN) was the 13th round selection (379th overall) of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays
, while senior Matt Buschmann
was the lone current Commodore drafted on the first day. He was the 15th round (453rd overall) choice of San Diego.
Buschmann finished the year with a 6-4 record and 3.95 ERA. He ended his career with a complete game win over Michigan in the opening round of the NCAA Atlanta Regional last Friday and ended up making the All-Tournament team. His 23 career wins at VU ties him for fourth best in school history.
Rounds 18-50 of the draft will be completed tomorrow starting at 11 a.m.
