Gonzalez hit two homers Monday night to lead the Padres to a come-from-behind, 8-6 win over the Phillies at Petco Park. The first was a solo shot off Phillies starter Cole Hamels in the sixth. The second was a three-run shot off left-handed reliever Rheal Cormier an inning later that put the Padres ahead 7-6.
Gonzalez now has seven homers and 15 RBIs in his last seven games. In a span of four games, he has the first two multiple-homer games of his career.
Going back further, Gonzalez has 13 homers and 28 RBIs since June 6.
A couple more rarities -- only one of Gonzalez's first 14 homers came with a runner on base, and his first 15 homers all came off right-handed pitchers. Three of his last four homers have been three-run shots, and his last three homers have come off left-handed pitchers.
As for the glove, Gonzalez made three defensive gems at first base Monday night, turning a line drive into a double play and converting two other smashes down the line into outs at first.
Gonzalez now has 18 homers, equaling the Padres high for all of 2005, by Ryan Klesko.
