He was acquired by the Padres from the Cubs on July 22 in exchange for minor league pitchers Fabian Jimenez and Joel Santo, and has pitched in 11 contests for San Diego, going 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA (9 ER/11.0 IP) in those outings.
Adkins, 28, is 2-1 with a 3.63 ERA (18 ER/44.2 IP) in 43 games with the Padres this season. He was optioned to Portland on Monday (August 21) and will be making his third stint with San Diego this season. He originally had his contract purchased from Portland on April 18 and was recalled for a second time on May 12. Adkins signed with the Padres as a minor league free Agent on January 23, 2006.

He has played in 64 games for the Devil Rays this season, batting .201 (34-for-169) with 12 home runs, 10 doubles and 27 RBI. The left-handed hitting Branyan appeared in games at first base, third base, left field and right field for Tampa Bay in 2006.
The 25-year-old Johnson is batting .252 (26-for-103) with four doubles, one triple, four home runs, 10 RBI, 16 runs scored and three stolen bases in 47 games for the Padres this season. He has made 24 starts for San Diego in 2006, including 14 in left field and 10 in center field.
