Renteria back with the Lake Elsinore Storm

Lake Elsinore, CA - The San Diego Padres have announced Lake Elsinore Storm Manager, Rick Renteria, will return for the 2007 season. Renteria will be entering his fourth year as manager of the Storm after leading the team to the Southern Division Finals in 2006 with a division-leading 74-66 record. Pitching Coach Steve Webber has also been welcomed back for another season.

Renteria made his Lake Elsinore debut in 2003 as a hitting coach after spending four seasons in the managerial ranks in the Florida Marlins system. In 1999, Renteria was named Midwest League Manager of the Year, leading Florida's Single-A Kane County affiliate to a league-best 78-59 record.

Webber will begin his second season as Pitching Coach for the Lake Elsinore Storm in 2007. Under Webber's instruction, the Storm pitching staff led the Southern Division with a 3.90 ERA and tied for the league lead with 10 shutouts. Storm pitchers also led the division with the fewest home runs (89) and walks (362) allowed in 2006.

Storm fans will see a new face in 2007, as former major-leaguer, Max Venable, will assume the responsibility as Hitting Coach. Venable, who served as Hitting Coach for the Fort Wayne Wizards for the past two seasons, will replace Tom Tornincasa. Tornincasa will remain in the Padres organization, but his assignment has yet to be finalized. Venable played 12 seasons in the Major Leagues, finishing up his career with the California Angels from 1989-91.

The Storm will begin the franchise's 14th season on April 5, 2007 with a seven-game road trip before celebrating Opening Day at The Diamond on Thursday, April 12. For ticket information, call the Lake Elsinore Storm ticket office at 951-245-HITS.
