Eugene Emeralds 2007 Schedule

EUGENE – The Emeralds announced their schedule for the upcoming 2007 season today, following the Northwest League Fall Meeting in Portland. The 2007 season will be the Emeralds 39th at Civic Stadium and the seventh as an affiliate of the San Diego Padres. It also marks Eugene's 48th campaign as a member of the Northwest League.

The club will open the season on the road for the second straight year, and for the sixth time in the past eight seasons, on Tuesday, June 19th against the Spokane Indians. The team then returns to the Willamette Valley to open the home slate with the first of five games against the defending East Division champion Boise Hawks on Sunday, June 24th at 4:05 p.m.

Other schedule highlights include the Emeralds Fireworks Extravaganza, which for the first time since the 2002 season, will take place following the game on Independence Day, July 4th when the Emeralds host the Yakima Bears. First pitch on July 4th is 6:35 p.m. The Emeralds have also scheduled a special Labor Day contest on September 3rd against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. First pitch is at 4:05 p.m.

The Emeralds will play each team in the West Division 12 times (six home, six away) and each team in the East Division 10 times (five home, five away) for a total of 76 games. This schedule format has been used by the Northwest League since 1987.

At some point during the 2007 home schedule, the Emeralds will welcome the franchises 5,000,000th fan through the gates of Civic Stadium. Since the franchise began play as a charter member of the NWL in 1955, an astounding 4,945,915 fans have enjoyed Emeralds baseball both at Bethel Park and at Civic Stadium.

The Emeralds schedule features five home games in June, 19 in July, 11 in August and three in September. Regular start times for all games Monday through Saturday, with the exception of Independence Day and Labor Day, is 7:05 p.m. First pitch for Sunday games is at 4:05 p.m.

Emeralds president Bob Beban, who is entering his 26th year as the franchises top executive, is excited about the season to come. "After our successful season last year and the enthusiasm that was generated in the community I can't wait to get things started again." He continued, "The Padres have a renewed philosophy in their minor league system and we are hoping to capitalize on that."
