Padres stockpiling draft picks

The San Diego Padres banked two more draft picks on Friday when the San Francisco Giants signed free agent left fielder Dave Roberts to a three-year deal. Earlier in the day, the Friars offered Roberts arbitration.

Along with Roberts, the Padres offered arbitration to Todd Walker, Chan Ho Park and Ryan Klesko, Alan Embree and David Wells, while formally offering to Woody William to collect two draft picks from the Houston Astros, who signed Williams as a free agent.

Walker, Park, Embree, Wells, and Klesko have until December 7 to accept or reject arbitration.

Walker, as a Type-A free agent, would add an additional two picks if he was signed by another team.

San Diego's own pick sits 23rd in round one and they have already accumulated four extra picks in rounds one, two and the supplemental second-round.

In addition, the club declined to offer arbitration to catcher Mike Piazza and pitchers Doug Brocail, Shawn Estes and Rudy Seanez.
