Originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the eighth round of the 2003 MLB Draft, Powell spent last season with High-A Potomac of the Carolina League.
While he began his career at second base, Powell spent most of 2006 at third. A left-handed batter, he hit .280 in 126 games with 34 doubles, 14 homers and 71 RBI's. He also added 30 steals in 39 attempts.
He ended the year placing third in the Carolina League in doubles, third in extra base hits (52), fifth in hits (129) and slugging percentage (.463), fourth in stolen bases, eighth in batting average but third in strikeouts (124).
Powell has a career average of .286 in 374 games.
