Padres sign Mike DeMark

Florence, KY – The Florence Freedom announced today Mike DeMark, a right handed pitcher from Jeannette, Pennsylvania has signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres organization.

Mike DeMark will report to spring training in March to vie for a roster spot.

In 2006 for the Freedom DeMark came out of the bullpen, going 1-4 with a 3.22 ERA. In 64 innings he struck out 59 hitters and kept opposing batters to a .192 average.

"Along with his college career DeMark showed us last season that he has the ability to dominate at times in professional baseball," commented Freedom Manager Jamie Keefe, "with his work ethic and natural ability, there's no telling how far he can go in this game."

A graduate of Marietta (OH) College, DeMark followed up a stellar college career with a solid performance in the Frontier League. He recorded the final out for Marietta to win the 2006 Division III National Championship. DeMark was 31-3 with 3 saves and recorded 262 strikeouts in 249 innings at the college level.

Florence Freedom is a member of the Frontier League, a 12-team Independent Professional Baseball League established in 1993. The Freedom play a 96 game schedule with 50 home games between late May and early September.
