Cust outrighted to Portland

Peoria, AZ - The San Diego Padres today outrighted the contract of outfielder Jack Cust to Triple-A Portland.

Today's transaction reduces the number of players on San Diego's 40-man roster to 38 players.

Jack Cust, 28, has a career Major League batting average of .222 (32-for-144) with nine doubles, five home runs and 19 RBI in 70 games over parts of five seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2001), Colorado Rockies (2002), Baltimore Orioles (2003-2004) and Padres (2006).

Cust was 1-for-3 in four games with San Diego last season. He played the majority of the 2006 campaign with Portland, where he batted .293 (129-for-441) with 97 runs, 23 doubles, 30 homers and 77 RBI in 138 games. Cust is 6-for-19 (.316) in 11 Spring Training games.

The Padres now have 42 players in Big League camp, including 32 players from the 40-man roster and 10 non-roster invitees.
