Peoria, AZ-- The San Diego Padres will request unconditional release waivers tomorrow on right-handed pitcher Scott Strickland. Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.
, 30, is 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA (4 ER/10.2 IP), four walks and nine strikeouts in 10 appearances for the Padres this Spring. He was signed by San Diego as a free agent on October 27, 2006 after spending the 2006 season in the Pittsburgh Pirates
organization. Strickland went 5-2 with five saves and a 2.09 ERA (17 ER/73.1 IP) in 53 games for Triple-A Indianapolis last season, recording 70 strikeouts compared to 15 walks.
Over parts of six Major League seasons with the Montreal Expos (1999-2002), New York Mets (2002-03) and Houston Astros (2005), Strickland is 12-21 with 20 saves and a 3.34 ERA (89 ER/240.0 IP) in 236 games. Originally selected by the Expos in the 10th round of the 1997 First-Year Player draft, he has a career minor league record of 21-17 with 32 saves and a 3.26 ERA (135 ER/373.0 IP) in 193 games (27 starts) over parts of seven seasons.
The Padres 40-man roster will stand at 37 and the club will have 34 players in Big League camp, including 30 players from the 40-man roster and four non-roster invitees.
