"We come back – that was the key hit in this game," manager Carlos Lezcano said. "We have been playing hard every inning, every out, every at bat. I am pleased we have played like that."
"Go on and take the lead and win the game, it was a good team win all the way around," Crosta said. "I feel like I am seeing the ball well right now. My numbers aren't quite my at bats right now."
The Storm tacked on two more the following inning, getting a double from David Freese after Baxter walked, a sac fly from Blanks and a wild pitch to score the ninth run of the game.
High Desert scratched one run back in the sixth, chasing Carter from the game and making the score 9-6.
Lake Elsinore punched two more across the board in the bottom of the eighth to provide the final margin of victory, 11-6.
An early two-base error on Matt Bush put the second hitter of the game in scoring position. Jesus Guzman followed with a single off Brent Carter to left-center to score Josh Womack and take an early lead.
Lake Elsinore would tie the score and then some in the bottom half.
Matt Antonelli led off with a double off the wall in left-center. Mike Baxter went first-pitch swinging and laced a single through the middle of the field. David Freese brought Antonelli home with a groundout to short. Kyle Blanks then pounded a ball off the wall just right off dead-center to bring Baxter in.
"That is not going to happen too often," Lezcano said of Baxter's four runs scored. "He had some good at bats, walking and seeing pitches. He is the only lefty we have in the lineup."
Four straight High Desert singles opened the top half of the second put the Mavericks back in the lead at 3-2. Carter had the last two hitters in a 0-2 count but was unable to put them away. After a sacrifice bunt, Casey Craig launched a double to the deepest part of the field to drive in two more and put High Desert ahead 5-2.
The Lake Elsinore Storm will play the High Desert Mavericks 22 more times this season.
The Storm sold out 8,069 seats and the grass area along the right field line packed them in like sardines.
